Il Daily Telegraph pubblica la lista di quelle che definisce "Le 100 canzoni che definiscono il decennio". Il critico Neil McCormick del quotidiano britannico afferma che, in questi anni che hanno visto il boom del download illegale, l'invenzione dell'iPod e di iTunes, il nascere di spazi musicali gratuiti come MySpace, YouTube e Spotify, non c'è stato un trend imperante. Anzi, il decennio 2000-2009 è stato "frammentato". Le prime venti canzoni classificate:
