Il prossimo 25 novembre verrà pubblicato “Live at the Fillmore”, il primo album dal vivo di Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers dalla morte del rocker statunitense avvenuta il 2 ottobre 2017. Il disco testimonia i venti concerti che Tom Petty e il suo gruppo tennero dal 10 gennaio al 7 febbraio del 1997 al Fillmore di San Francisco.
Quegli spettacoli al Fillmore videro la band cambiare scaletta ogni sera e, soprattutto, suonare una grande quantità di cover tratte dal repertorio di alcuni loro eroi musicali quali J.J. Cale, i Kinks, i Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan e Chuck Berry. In “Live at the Fillmore” sono incluse le performance del leggendario bluesman John Lee Hooker e di Roger McGuinn dei Byrds che si unirono a Petty sul palco. Quelle serate a San Francisco entusiasmarono Tom Petty al punto che l'ultima sera rivolto al pubblico disse: "Noi tutti sentiamo che questo potrebbe essere il momento più alto del nostro tempo insieme come gruppo... Stasera sarà difficile farci scendere da questo palco".
Il chitarrista degli Heartbreakers Mike Campbell ricordando quel mese trascorso a San Francisco spiegò: "Suonare per un mese al Fillmore nel 1997 è stata, come musicista, una delle migliori esperienze di tutta la mia vita. La band era su di giri e cambiavamo la scaletta ogni sera. Il posto e la folla erano mistici... e... abbiamo avuto modo di suonare con degli ospiti fantastici. Ricorderò per sempre quelle serate con stimolo e gioia”.
Il primo estratto dell'album è "Listen to Her Heart", secondo singolo del secondo album di Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers “You're Gonna Get It!” pubblicato nel 1978. Qui sotto il nuovo video della canzone diretto da Peter Sluszka.
“Live at the Fillmore” sarà disponibile nelle edizioni in doppio CD, triplo LP, quattro CD, sei LP ed edizioni “uber deluxe” da 6 vinili. Quest'ultimo, disponibile esclusivamente nel negozio web di Tom Petty, vanta 58 brani, quattro ore di musica, oltre ad essere corredato da una serie di cimeli.
