Anais Mitchell - HADESTOWN - la recensione

Dal 2007 in forze alla Righteous Babe di Ani DiFranco (che quell’anno ha pubblicato il suo terzo album “Brightness”), la giovane cantautrice del Vermont realizza con “Hadestown” il disco più ambizioso, denso e ispirato della sua ancora breve carriera: una “folk opera” che, prendendo libera ispirazione dal mito greco di Orfeo ed Euridice, riflette sulla Grande Depressione dell’America di questi anni attingendo a un universo di suoni che include tracce di folk, rock, blues, swing, ragtime, vaudeville e teatro musicale alla Brecht-Weill. Accanto alla Mitchell (nel ruolo di Euridice) partecipano al progetto in veste di cantanti coprotagonisti Justin Vernon dei Bon Iver (Orfeo), Greg Brown (Ade), Ben Knox Miller dei Low Anthem (Hermes) e la stessa DiFranco (nelle vesti di Persefone).
