"Apriti, sesamo!": e l'archivio di Bob Dylan torna ad aprirsi, svelando i suoi tesori. Il leggendario cantautore ha annunciato l'uscita, prevista per il prossimo 31 ottobre, del volume numero diciotto delle "Bootleg series", la serie di cofanetti contenenti inediti e rarità inaugurata nel 1991. "Bootleg series volume 18: Through the open window 1956-1963", questo il titolo del nuovo mega-cofanetto, conterrà - come suggerisce il titolo - materiale d'archivio risalente ai sette anni compresi tra il 1965 e il 1963, quelli della "formazione" del futuro premio Nobel per la letteratura.
Il cofanetto - già preordinabile sul sito di Sony Music - offre un ritratto unico dei primi anni di Dylan, quando affinava il proprio talento e trasformava brani folk tradizionali e abbozzi di testi in canzoni destinate a diventare classici immortali, come “Blowin’ in the Wind” e “The Times They Are A-Changin’.” La raccolta include rari outtakes dagli archivi Columbia, registrazioni live in club e coffeehouse, sessioni improvvisate in appartamenti di amici e jam in ritrovi di musicisti ormai scomparsi. Molti di questi documenti sono rarissimi, altri vengono pubblicati per la prima volta. L'antologia si chiude con la registrazione in versione integrale e inedita del concerto alla Carnegie Hall del 26 ottobre 1963: un evento che segnò l’apice della sua prima ascesa e, allo stesso tempo, la fine dell’inizio della sua lunghissima carriera. «Di quel tempo e di quei luoghi, questa raccolta è solo un frammento – scrive lo storico Sean Wilentz nel saggio di 125 pagine che accompagna il cofanetto – Eppure, come documento sonoro di un artista che diventa sé stesso — o nel caso di Dylan, il primo dei suoi molti sé artistici — la raccolta mira a far collassare tempo e spazio, non come una rêverie nostalgica ma come un collegamento vivente tra passato e presente, tra vecchio e nuovo, che non sono mai così distinti come potremmo pensare».
Il box deluxe da 8CD contiene 139 brani, di cui 48 inediti assoluti e 38 rarità, oltre a un libro rilegato con note approfondite di Sean Wilentz e oltre 100 fotografie rare. Le edizioni ridotte da 2CD e 4LP comprendono invece 42 brani.
