“When you're strange” è il titolo di un film-documentario sui Doors girato da Tom DiCillo, regista e direttore della fotografia al fianco di Jim Jarmusch.
Dopo aver visionato tutto il materiale esistente su Jim Morrison (la cui morte avvenne il 3 luglio di quarant'anni fa) e soci, il regista ha realizzato questa pellicola su una delle band più importanti del rock americano, avvalendosi di materiale inedito, ma anche di alcune immagini tratte da film dell'epoca come “Feast of friends” di Paul Ferrara e “HWY - An American Pastoral” girato dallo stesso Morrison con il supporto di Ferrara.
Uscito nelle sale italiane lo scorso 21 giugno, ecco ora anche la colonna sonora del film, tredici canzoni dei Doors divise tra studio ed episodi live come “Break on through” cantata dal vivo all'Isola di Wight nel 1970, “Light my fire” eseguita all' Ed Sullivan Show e “When the music's over” suonata per la televisione danese.
A completare il tutto alcune poesie scritte dal “Re Lucertola” lette dalla voce narrante del film, l'attore Johnny Deep (in Italia questo ruolo è stato coperto da Morgan).
