La prima e unica diva pellerossa sulla scena musicale americana torna a incidere un album di studio e di materiale prevalentemente inedito dopo diciassette anni di silenzio. Lo fa in compagnia del suo ormai fedele alter ego Chris Birkett, chitarrista e produttore, e con un disco che riassume la versatilità stilistica di una carriera: il folk blues degli esordi (“Little wheel spin and spin” intitolava un suo album del 1966) e il pow wow rock con inserti di canti nativi americani, i brani per chitarra acustica e quelli scanditi dalle batterie elettroniche, la ballata pop anni Ottanta in stile “Up where we belong” (di cui fu coautrice) e l’Elvis Presley del periodo Sun Records, il New Orleans Sound (in “I bet my heart on you” duetta al piano con Taj Mahal) e la rilettura (con testo riveduto e corretto) dello standard patriottico statunitense “America the beautiful”.
