Primo album di McCartney non-EMI (esce per la Hear Music, l’etichetta della caffetteria americana Starbucks), fa seguito al molto elogiato “Chaos and creation in the backyard” prodotto da Nigel Godrich, ma è stato iniziato prima di quello, con la produzione di David Kahne (già con Macca per “Driving rain” e il live “Back in the world”).
Fra i brani, da segnalare i singoli “Dance tonight” e “Ever present past”, il medley “Vintage clothes” / “Thet was me” / “Feet in the clouds” e “End of the end”. Il disco è ampiamente suonato dal solo McCartney, che in sei brani è stato aiutato dalla band del tour americano del 2000 (Rusty Anderson, chitarra, Brian Ray, chitarra e basso, Abe Laboriel Jr., batteria, Paul “Wix” Wickens, batteria).
